Willow woke up and rolled over in bed. Derek wasn’t there, and his side of the bed was cold. No surprise. He usually got up really early. She could smell the coffee. She slipped out of bed, quickly got dressed, and padded out barefoot into the front room. He was sitting at the table with his laptop open before him.

“Good morning.” She walked over and poured a cup of coffee.

“Good morning, sleepyhead.”

“Hey, it’s only seven.” She walked over and kissed his neck, so glad to have him here with her.

He grinned. “Been up for two hours.”

“Of course you have.” She shook her head. “You working?”

“I do have to do a few things this morning. Sorry. I left in such a hurry.”

“No, that’s okay. Do what you need to do.”

“Why don’t you go knock on Aspen’s door and see if she wants to go to breakfast with you? It will give you two more time to talk.” Derek suggested.

“That’s a good idea.” She slipped on a pair of shoes by the door and crossed to Aspen’s cottage. She didn’t answer the door. Disappointed, she turned to head back to her cottage when she spied Aspen coming up from the beach. Willow waved as Aspen jogged up.

“Morning. I was up watching the sunrise.”

“I was wondering if you wanted to catch breakfast? Maybe go to Sea Glass Cafe?”

“Sure, that sounds great. Derek coming?”

“He’s got some work to do. I’ll bring him back something or he can scrounge through that basket we got.”

“Give me five minutes,” Aspen said.

She headed back to her cottage and went inside. Derek was talking on his cell phone. She finished getting ready, gave him a quick kiss on the cheek while he continued his call, and headed out.

Aspen came out of her cottage at the same time. “Walk?” Aspen asked.

“Yes, that sounds good.” She didn’t really have the time to take walks back home. It was always go, go, go. And always in the car.

They headed out to the street. “You seem to really know your way around town. I’m still getting lost,” she said as they crossed a side street and suddenly were on the main street, Magnolia.

“I’m getting the hang of it. I love being in a town where you can walk everywhere.”

“Where I live, it’s a fifteen, twenty-minute drive to the closest grocery store. Twenty to thirty minutes to Eli’s school. Everything is off the interstate. This is kind of a nice change.”

They got to Sea Glass Cafe and stepped inside. The delicious aroma of cinnamon and rich coffee swirled around them. A woman called to them from across the room. “Take a seat anywhere. I’ll be there in a jiffy.”

They sat at a table by the window. The woman walked up with two menus. “Hi. I’m Melody. Welcome to Sea Glass Cafe. Evelyn—she’s one of the owners—made fresh cinnamon rolls today.”

“I smell them.” Aspen grinned. “I’m going to have to have one of those. And coffee.”

“I’ll have the same,” Willow said without even looking at the menu.
